THE 4TH OF JULY

"We on this continent should never forget that men first crossed the Atlantic not to find soil for their ploughs but to secure liberty for their souls." – Robert J. McCracken

On July 4th – also known as Independence Day – is a time when WE celebrate our country, America. This holiday marks the day in the year 1776 when Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence, officially separating the 13 original colonies from Great Britain during the Revolutionary War.

But interesting facts:

9 out of 13 North American colonies voted for the separation from Great Britain; declaring their independence on July 1st, 1776. Pennsylvania and South Carolina voted no, Delaware was undecided, and New York abstained from the vote.

This year 2021, Monday, July 5th is nationally when this day is observed.

*July 4th is also one of the biggest holidays in the United States of America.

We celebrate the 4th of July with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts, baseball games, and family reunions.

Today my family and I will celebrate at Pottawatomie Park in St Charles IL. Last year during the Covid pandemic there were no celebrations in community parks and we spent our night walking around our neighborhood in search of fireworks and we ended our night with a nice drive through Saint Charles.

Childhood Memory:

When I was a little girl, living at 1408 Palisade Ave in Union City, I could see out from my bedroom window the Hudson River, Empire State Building and the Twin Towers. On the 4th of July, I had the best views of the Fireworks from New York City.
